PROJECT EXPERIENCE – TRANSIT / TRANSPORTATION
Scarborough Subway Extension, Role: Senior Utility Engineer, Client: Metrolinx/Infrastructure Ontario
This 7.8 km long subway line will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit between the downtown core and eastern GTA. The project is comprised of a single bore tunnel, 3 stations, and other ancillary structures. Served as the Technical Advisor to the Contracting Authority, and as a lead engineer responsible for wet utilities design, including utilities conflict assessment, utilities relocation strategies, third-party utilities coordination, Project Specific Output Specifications (PSOS) and RCD development.
VIA Rail Maintenance Facility Upgrade, Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec, Canada (Sep 2020 – Mar 2022), Role: Utility Engineer, Client: VIA Rail
The project involves civil and utility works for the modernization of two VIA Rail facilities – Toronto Maintenance Centre (TMC) and Montreal Maintenance Centre (MMC). Served as the utility engineer, leading utility design for the Reference Conceptual Design (RCD) package. His responsibilities include design development, existing site condition assessment, Project Design Criteria (PDC) and specification preparation, stormwater management review, and engineering documents QC.
GO Electrification Project, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Sep 2020 – Dec 2020), Role: Utility Engineer, Client: Metrolinx/Infrastructure Ontario
The project involves civil and utility works of a few layover sites scattered in south Ontario. Served as the utility engineer, leading engineering design of site drainage and the utilities (water supply, sanitary, power supply etc.) that service the sites.
Eglinton Crosstown LRT, Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Apr 2017 – Aug 2020), Role: Utility Engineer, Client: Metrolinx/Infrastructure Ontario
A large-scale public transit project in the City of Toronto. The 19.5 km long LRT line runs along Eglinton Avenue from west of Weston Road to Kennedy Road and is comprised of 15 stations, 10 stops and a maintenance and storage facility. Served as a lead engineer responsible for wet utilities design for At Grade sections and underground stations (Chaplin, Cedarvale, Mount Pleasant, Laird etc.), including watermain, storm and sanitary sewer relocation and upgrade, track drainage design, hydraulic and hydrologic analyses. Prepared engineering deliverables and reviewed engineering documents prepared by peer engineers. Coordinated with other disciplines and sub-consultants. Provided technical support for construction. Prepared ECA, DWWP, and PWDA application packages, and addresses comments of reviewing agencies.
Confederation Line Extension West, Ottawa
Acting as lead designer, identifying conflicts with the proposed LRT Tunnel, Tunnel openings, and pedestrian bridge at Queensview Station and mitigation has been a key aspect of scope. By conducting thorough assessments and analysis, successfully pinpointed potential issues to ensure a smooth project implementation.
Corridor Mobility Program, City of Austin CPO, Role: Quality Reviewer, Utilities
Responsible for reviewing Utility Conflict Matrix, Utility Layout, Conflict Evident Packets, Utility Risk register and assessment for 30%, 60%, 90%, 100% design submittals.
Ontario Line, Metrolinx/Infrastructure Ontario, Role: Project Manager, Utilities
Responsible for the planning, designing, permitting, installing, and commissioning of South Civil Utilities on the Project.
Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) of the Regional Express Rail (RER) Stouffville Corridor Grade-Separation Project, Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, Ontario, Canada, Metrolinx, (2017-2018), Role: Field Engineer and Utility Coordinator
As the Utilities Field Engineer and Utility Coordinator, correlated utility design and relocations at grade separations with utility agencies. Developed a 3D model of the underground utilities of the $254 million project using Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Navisworks. Prepared Composite Utility Plans (CUP) for permits and approvals. In-charge of Toronto Public Utility Coordination Committee (TPUCC) and Municipality Consents for Third-Party Utilities. Produced and updated utility conflict matrix and composite utility mapping to facilitate project's TPUCC approval for utility relocation work, reviewing and resolving utility conflicts. Created reports and correspondence for additional land requirements for utility placements and constructability. Assisted in the development of utility execution schedules. Identified scope of work and wrote contracts for subcontractors. Reviewed subcontractor submittals, installation manuals, and requests for information (RFI).
PROJECT EXPERIENCE – MUNICIPAL
Preliminary Design Services for Borough Drive Extension, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Role: Senior Utility Engineer, Client: City of Toronto/Metrolinx
A City of Toronto project, absorbed by Metrolinx, for inclusion as part of transit expansion of the Scarborough Subway Extension. Scope includes preliminary design services for the extension of Borough Drive from Progress Avenue to Town Centre Court. The urban roadway extension is constrained by existing land use/infrastructure and developer properties. New infrastructure includes wet utilities (watermains and sewers), dry utilities (Hydro, Telcos etc.), cycle lanes, TTC bus stops and developer parking lot adjustments. The project includes coordination with City of Toronto, Metrolinx, MTO, TTC, Oxford Developments and all third-party utility owners. Disciplines include roadway, utilities, drainage, structural (impacts to existing structures), environmental, traffic, and landscape.
Vaughan Watermain Replacement and Sewer Rehabilitation, Vaughn, Ontario, Canada (Jan 2018 – May 2020), Role: Design Lead, Utilities, Client: City of Vaughan
Replacement of 5,000 meters of existing metallic watermains with PVC pipes and rehabilitation of 600m diameter deteriorated sewers at various locations in the City of Vaughan. Provided options for watermain alignments, railway crossing, and sewer rehabilitation technologies. Developed breakdown cost estimates for options. Prepared technical memo and detail design. Reviewed sub-consultant documents. Prepared specifications and tender package. Coordinated with sub-consultants and regulatory agencies. Provided site inspection service during construction. Vaughan City Hall Entrance Improvement, Vaughn, Ontario, Canada (Mar 2020 – Sep 2020), Role: Utilities Design Lead, Client: Region of York Road widening, Resurfacing and Storm Sewer Works for a section of Major Mackenzie Drive, a regional municipal road, in vicinity of Vaughan City Hall. Performed runoff calculation and sewer design; Coordinated civil design with other disciplines (landscape and electrical design); Prepared ECA (Environmental Compliance Approval) application; Coordinated and liaised with clients, utilities and regulatory agencies; Prepared tender package, quantity takeoffs and cost estimate; Supervised junior staff.
PROJECT EXPERIENCE – WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
Lorne Park Water Treatment Plant Expansion, (May 2007 – May 2010), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Role: Process Engineer, Client: Regional Municipality of Peel
The treatment plant was expanded from a conventional treatment plant rated for 227 ML/d to a membrane filtration system rated for 380 ML/d, to provide a total firm treatment capacity of 500 ML/d. Main responsibilities included: raw water intake capacity evaluation; low and high lift pumping station hydraulics; high lift pumping station NPSHa evaluation; pump selection and lift cycle cost analysis; plant hydraulic profile development; design of in-plant water transfer pumping systems; technical specifications of pumping equipment and accessories; preparation of plant operations manual
Tullamore Reservoir and Pumping Station, (June 2010 – May 2012), Caledon, Ontario, Canada. Role: Process Engineer, Client: Regional Municipality of Peel
Preliminary, detailed design and tender package preparation services for the reservoir and pumping station intended to supply water to Zone 5 and Zone 6 in the Peel Region. Main responsibilities included: PFDs and P&IDs development; pumping station layout and elevation; reservoir layout and the mixing system; yard piping; pump selection design; preparation of design report, and operations manual; development of process control strategies and preparation of process control narrative; technical specification development; contract documents preparation; engineering coordination with other disciplines; design of an on-site septic system; site plan approval and MOE licensing applications; capital cost estimates and operational cost analysis; tender service and shop drawing review.
Streetsville Reservoir and Pumping Station Upgrade (Sep 2010 – June 2012), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Role: Process Engineer, Client: Regional Municipality of Peel
Provided engineering service for increase of the Zone 3&4 pumping capacity to meet the anticipated water demands and increase of the system storage for fire protection, system balancing and emergency reserves. Conducted pumping station hydraulic analysis; pump selection; technical specifications of pumps and the priming system; surge tank shop drawing review and coordination; tender package preparation service.
Kleinburg Wells 3 and 4 Upgrade (Aug 2009 – Aug 2010), Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada. Role: Process Engineer, Client: Regional Municipality of York
A capacity increase of the two wells to meet the increased water demand of the Kleinburg community Upgrade of well pump; verification of disinfection and iron sequestering systems capacities; upgrade of the disinfection system; rearrangement of the two well discharge piping; RFQs preparation; MOE application; specifications; cost estimate; tender service and shop drawing review.
Stouffville-Ballantrae Wells Upgrade (May 2009 – Oct 2009), Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. Role: Process Engineer, Client: Regional Municipality of York
Upgrade of all chemical feed pumps; upgrade of the well pump discharge pipe; design of new chemical containment area and storage tank; design of a sodium hypochlorite carboy filling station; cost estimate; specifications; tender service and shop drawing review.
